Mentoring Proposal
EIPA Prep Course
$300
- Goal: Raise the mentee’s EIPA score to at least 3.5+ in their primary mode and strengthen K–12 classroom interpreting skills.
- Duration: 6–9 months, with biweekly 60–90 minute sessions.
- Focus areas:
- Classroom discourse: work with real or simulated K–12 content (lectures, group work, etc).
- Language targets: classifiers, space, role shift, fingerspelling clarity, and child/teen language comprehension.
- Text analysis: pre-viewing teacher materials, identifying key concepts, and planning interpretations.
BEI Prep Course
$300
- Goal: Prepare the mentee to pass the BEI performance exam and function effectively in typical state-level assignments.
- Duration: 9–12 months, with weekly 120-minute sessions.
- Focus areas:
- Register shifting: practice from informal to formal settings (medical intake, employer meetings, IEPs).
- Activities:
- Domain rotation: each month focuses on one domain (medical, employment, education, community).
- Practice exams: regular BEI-style voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice samples with rubrics.
NIC Prep Course
$300
- Goal: Build the mentee’s skills and professional judgment to pass the NIC knowledge and performance exams and to work as a broadly competent community interpreter.
- Duration: 12 months, with biweekly sessions plus independent work.
- Focus areas:
- Exam domains: interpreting theory, ethics (RID CPC), and performance in varied settings.
- Advanced language work: managing high-register English, abstract ASL discourse, and rapid turn-taking.
Skill Builder Group Sessions
Warm-up: Fingerspell & review basic signs. Expand vocab with flashcards/videos. Practice receptive skills by watching ASL dialogs. Expressive: Translate sentences & interpret short dialogs. Peer review for feedback. Reflect & set a goal. Use videos, flashcards, and recording for self-review. Hands-on, peer-driven growth.
